List of Persian/Iranian Events for 2004-04-06
The International Conference on the Iranian Diaspora
Boston Tuesday - April 6, 2004 02:45 PM
It is often cited that Iranian-Americans are the most successful minorities in the United States. If this true, what are the implications of this "success"?
How integrated and involved are Iranians in their new countries? Where is this community now, how is it growing, and in what direction should the various communities continue to grow? How important is knowledge of Farsi for the second-generation, and what ties, if any, does this generation have with Iran? What types of alliances can be forged between Iranians in the various communities they now call home? The International Conference on the Iranian Diaspora
will address these questions in the hope that this will begin an on-going discussion.
Additionally, the conference is enriched with two evenings of musical performances. On Saturday night,Haale, a New York-born vocalist and composer who weaves Persian melodies and poetry through a soundscape of tribal-beats, sci-fi guitars, and a twanging setar will perform at Bayside Expo in Boston.
Sunday's performance features Persian Classical music, known as Dastgah, from the celebrated Boston-based Hafez Ensemble. To find more information, registration forms, and a
complete schedule of speakers and events, please visit IAAB's website at http://www.wellesley.edu/Activities/homepage/wpsa/
held on April 17-18, 2004, on the Wellesley and Tufts University campuses in Boston, Massachusetts.
