Nobel laureate to speak at Wosk Centre in April

Shirin Ebadi, 2003 Nobel laureate for peace, will give the final lecture in the SFU Nobels and Other Prizes lecture series on April 21 at 6 p.m. at the Morris Wosk centre for dialogue.
Ebadi, an Iranian lawyer and activist, has spent decades promoting peaceful solutions to social problems.

As a leading human rights defender for women, children and victims of government repression, her talk will focus on the issue of compatibility between Islam and democracy and the importance of fostering dialogue between communities across the globe.

Free tickets will be distributed to SFU faculty, staff, students, alumni and the general public through an online lottery beween March 18 and March 24.

Ebadi’s lecture will take place in the Asia Pacific Hall at the Wosk Centre, with additional seating in the downstairs concourse, where three large screens will provide live video coverage.

Ebadi will also do part of the question and answer session in this room.
A total of 70 tickets will be distributed for the Asia Pacific Hall and 250 for the concourse.
