The directors are American, Danish, and Kurdish.
The films are like roller-coasters, each surreal in its own way, charged with the sort of intensity and energy that makes you hold your breath for the dramatic conclusion…
New Theme: DESPERATE SITUATIONS
April 21: Dog Day Afternoon (directed by Sidney Lumet) Released in 1975, this movie is based on actual events. A disorganized bank robbery by a few desperate guys develops, over a few hours, into a historical event, with the media, federal officers, and rioters thrown together like one giant circus. The movie is basically in real time with essentially no music, but I dare you to notice. And if you ask me, this is Al Pacino’s best performance, at least as far as I’ve seen.
April 28: Europa (directed by Lars von Trier)
May 5: Marooned In Iraq (aka Gomgashtei dar Aragh directed by Bahman Ghobadi)
The next movie is this Wednesday, April 21. Don’t tell me your studying instead. I don’t believe it.
