Ghazal and Mozart's Requiem
Ghazal and Mozart’sRequiem
On August 27, the Mostly Mozart Festival examines the unexpected connection between
world music and the majestic requiem, one of Mozart’s final scores. The concert
opens with the ensemble Ghazal, featuring Kayhan Kalhor on kamancheh, Shujaat Husain
Khan on sitar and vocals, and Sandeep Das on tabla, performing meditative Indian and
Persian improvisations. Then the focus turns to the Requiem with distinguished
soloists performing with the Riverside Choral Society. The juxtaposition is
surprising and beautiful.
