Many traveled without valid papers and others did not hesitate to beg or even lie to get to these sacred sites. Playing with Infidels (Kofar) a portrait of the Godars, gypsies of Indian descent, who are Iran’s forgotten people.

Her charming son, Ishmael, is heading off to fight for his country. Fifteen years later, on the eve of the U.S. invasion of Iraq, Gilaneh is alone in her village home, taking care of Ishmael, now an invalid veteran. This beautifully shot, timely film overflows with unwavering pain, suffering and hope.

Today, after fatal construction flaws have been found, his controversial new film (it was withdrawn from the Carthage Film Festival) explores the metaphorical implications of that weakness in a beautifully crafted piece of filmmaking.
