    The bronze Age to the End of the Qajar Period

    Manouchehr Moshtagh Khorasani majored in English and Business is a specialist in the arms and armor of the Middle East with a special emphasis on Iranian arms and armor. He has done extensive research on the primary and secondary sources of Iranian arms and armor, the military history of Iran, images and decoration on arms and armor, different methods of casting bronze and iron weapons, and the forging of steel weapons. He has analyzed the inventories of ten Iranian arms and armor museums.

    In this session he will talk about his research on Iranian arm and armor from the bronze age to the end of Qajar dynasty. The result of his research is collected in his book, “Arms and Armor from Iran: the Bronze Age to the End of the Qajar Period” which includes illustration of a selected array of Iranian arms and armor from ten Iranian museums. His book also contains some selected items from private collections in Europe and the USA. Each artifact is meticulously studied and cross referenced with other existing pieces. The basic tenet of the research is to examine the weapons within their cultural settings. The reader is introduced to the topic with a general overview of Iranian history with particular emphasis on Iranian military history. The research has been extensive with over 550 sources consulted.
