For the very first time in Egyptian dance history and Middle Eastern dance in the USA, a husband and wife duet from the prestigious Reda troupe will be touring the USA!!

In 1959, Mr. Mahmoud Reda, his brother Ali and his sister-in-law Farida Fahmy co-founded the Reda Troupe in Egypt. It was the first Egyptian dance company to record Egyptian folk songs and dances from many different and remote regions of Egypt and perform them on stage. The Reda Troupe became world famous and rose to represent the cultural and ethnic face of Egypt at international events. Many of the Reda troupe members became master teachers and performers worldwide.

In May 2006, Atef and Magda, a husband and wife team who have been with the Reda troupe since 1975 (over 30 years), will share their wealth of knowledge and showcase their expertise in Egyptian Folkloric & Oriental Dance. They will teach and perform a wide variety of dances that take us on a tour of Egypt and bring back the golden days of Egyptian dance theater to our own backyard! In an artistic career spanning over 30 years, Magda and Atef Farag have performed authentic Egyptian dance all over the world and have won many awards. Their style is simple, elegant and full of Egyptianness. It is the perfect marriage between Egyptian Folklore and Oriental Dance (Raks Sharki)!

Atef has been training & directing the Egyptian Folkloric Troupe at the American University in Cairo since 1989. Not only does he choreograph & teach, but he also produces the whole show from costuming to music, lighting & set design. His dance troupe has consistently won 1st and 2nd places in national competitions. They presented authentic Egyptian dance at 45 international folk dance festivals all over the world.

Magda participated in ALL the Reda Troupe shows from 1975 till 1995, in Egypt and all over the world. When Farida Fahmy retired from performing, Magda performed Farida's solos. She was a star soloist in the Reda Troupe until 1995 when she became full time trainer then progressed to be head trainer of the Reda Troupe. She taught dance workshops in many European countries. Magda has been teaching Egyptian folkloric dance at the American University in Cairo since 1990
