The Iranian standoff is grabbing headlines every day. Iran is going nuclear, and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has repeatedly proclaimed that Israel should be "wiped off the map." The U.S. and Iran are currently at a total impasse, and some have claimed that the White House is already drawing up war plans. How did we get here? Join DC International Connection's "East West Connection" Dinner Forum on Saturday July 15th for this timely and enlightening discussion as Dr. Ali Ansari helps to distinguish myth from reality in US-Iran relations.
In his new book"CONFRONTING IRAN: The Failure of American Foreign Policy and the Next Great Conflict in the Middle East", Dr Ansari places current developments within a historical and cultural context, describing the myths and prejudices which have developed on both sides over the course of centuries and which have shaped policy and public opinion for decades. A highly regarded specialist in the field of Iranian history and politics, Dr. Ansari provides a concise yet comprehensive analysis of the brewing crisis, its origins, and its potential consequences. This event will be held at the Fireplace Mansion, 2301 1st St NW, Washington DC. Relax with old and new friends at the numerous balconies and fireplaces! Weather permitting, the rooftop deck will be open for chatting while viewing its breathtaking panoramic views of DC. We will have an all-you-can-eat dinner buffet with an array of Persian foods, and the discussion wil be followed by music and socializing at the mansion 'til late!
Admission is $15 at the door or $12.50 in advance, and is waived for those who register in advance to contribute a dish (serving 5 or more) to the buffet. For this event we are also offering half-price admission to members of NIAC and other Iranian-American organizations, who can buy their tickets in advance for only $7.50.
