A journey of two distinguished Iranian women toward success
By: Dr. Elahe Enssani and Shabnam Rezaei
Shabnam Rezaei is the founder and Editor-In-Chief of
PersianMirror. com, an online magazine with the mission of
bringing Iranian culture to the world. Shabnam is also the
co-founder of Norooz Productions, a production company that
aims to teach children about culture through entertainment.
Their first film was entitled "Babak & Friends – A First
Norooz", highlighting the Persian New Year. The movie has
been received tremendously well, having been sponsored for
a world tour by Apple Computers and shown around the world
in top museums.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, a
Bachelor of Arts in German Literature from the University
of Pennsylvania, and an MBA from New York University's
Stern School of Business. She speaks five languages and
has been published in numerous industry magazines.
Shabnam has extensive marketing, software design, and PR
experience. As the Head of Professional Services for Misys,
one of the largest industry-specific software companies in
the world, she has spent most of her professional career
developing and marketing financial software solutions to
banks and financial institutions.
Dr. Elahe Enssani is the Chair of Civil Engineering at
San Francisco State University and President and founder
of Applied Technology & Science. She is also the
founder of CWEST, Committee for Women's Education in
Science and Technology and a co-founders and a former
board member of the Iranian American Chamber of Commerce
(IACC).
In May 2005, she became the first Iranian-American to be
sworn in as a commissioner in the City & County of San
Francisco. Named International Woman of the year for her
services
to environmental engineering and technology, Dr. Enssani
has consulted the World Bank and the United Nations
Environmental Program and has authored and co-authored
more than 50 technical publications and two textbooks.
Though she has excelled in her field, Ms. Enssani's
passion has revolved around the civic participation of
the Iranian-American Diaspora. She has devised and been
a part of grass roots fundraising efforts for the
Iranian-American community that emphasized coalition
building with other communities.
Professor Enssani received her Bachelor's degree from
Sharif University of Technology, a Master's degree in
Chemical Engineering and Civil Engineering and a Ph.D.
in Civil Engineering from University of California at
Berkeley with the highest honors. She is also the
recipient of the prestigious US Berkeley's Chancellor's
Patent Fund Award for her doctoral
dissertation and has twice won the distinguished
teaching assistant award.

International Dance Party

On Sunday, September 3rd, after a Samba lesson at Café Sevilla which starts around 9:30 PM, there will be an international dance party, with a special dance music tribute by paid by Shahriar (the Persian Cat!), to the countries that participated at the 2006 World Cup games in Germany. Café Sevilla is located at 555, 4th Avenue, in the Gaslamp Quarter of downtown San Diego.
