Born in Iran, Hamed learned to sing at the age of seven and began playing Tar and Setar, two ancient Persian stringed instruments, under the tutorship of some of the masters of classical Persian music. By the time he was 20, he had added three more instruments to his repertoire and could play Tanboor, Oud, and Daf expertly. After receiving a B.A. degree in music composition, he began writing his own music and performing in concerts with some of the most acclaimed music ensembles before wide audiences in the U.S., Europe, Asia, and his home county of Iran. He has written music scores and played solo instruments in several films made by some of the most distinguished directors of Iranian cinema. His voice is mesmerizing and his music soulful. His latest release, “Solo Passage” (available online at www.cdbaby.com/cd/nikpay) is a collection of improvisations for solo Persian instruments, as masterfully performed as his provocative vocal pieces.
