Abbas Kiarostami Films at Pacific Film Archive
Bay Area - East Bay Thursday - August 9, 2007 09:00 PM
Pacific Film Archive Presents:
Abbas Kiarostami: Image Maker
July 7 – August 30, 2007
“We are living in the age of Kiarostami, but don’t yet know it.”—Werner Herzog
One of the most critically acclaimed and influential filmmakers of the past twenty-five years, Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami has captivated Western audiences with works of deceptive simplicity and indefinable poetry. We are proud to present this retrospective of his films, from early documentaries through his celebrated “Koker trilogy” and recent masterworks.
THURSDAY AUGUST 9
7:00PM First-Graders
(Iran, 1984)
Play meets punishment in Kiarostami’s documentary on first-graders reporting for their first day of school.
8:45PM Fellow Citizen
(Iran, 1983)
Bossy citizens invent countless reasons why a traffic cop should let them pass in Kiarostami’s satiric example of humanity’s capacity for lying—that is, telling stories. Preceded by shorts: Orderly or Disorderly (Iran, 1981) and The Chorus (Iran, 1982).
The Pacific Film Archive Theater is located at 2575 Bancroft Way (at Bowditch) in Berkeley, CA. Advance tickets are available by calling (510) 642-5249. For more information, visit http://bampfa.berkeley.edu/filmseries
