Dear Friends,
Khoda Hafez productions would like to introduce you to our narrative short film project currently in pre-production, Khoda Hafez Baradar (Goodbye, Brother). The film explores the teetering relationship between Mahmoud (8) and his mentally affected brother, Essi (12), orphans of a war-ravaged Iran.
It is our goal to film Khoda Hafez Baradar in Iran, in the Farsi language. In order to realize this goal we are trying to raise funds. Our fundraising target is $10,000. We hope to raise this money by May 16th, 2008.
Kristie Lutz (Director) and Chanelle Elaine (Co-Producer) are the first American filmmakers to be granted visas to produce a film in Iran – an amazing opportunity.
Traveling to Iran from America will be our largest expense. We feel strongly about shooting the film in Iran for many reasons, one of which is authenticity. If we do not raise adequate funds, we will unfortunately need to stage the film in the United States. We know this will look and feel false, not only to ourselves but to our audiences. Another reason is our desire to network with Iranian filmmakers to work toward establishing partnerships between Americans and Iranians with a greater goal of cultural acceptance in mind – a bold move at this juncture of political unrest in the Middle East. We also endeavor to convey an anti-war sentiment with the project. We feel that our voices are part of Iran’s cultural struggle, not only as Americans and Iranians respectively, but as women.
Asking for donations is never easy. All donors will receive a screen credit in Khoda Hafez Baradar. Donations of $1,000.00 and above will receive an Executive Producer credit. Even a dollar can help, though. Without the generous support of donors, many short films would never be realized. Your generosity will make this the best film it can be.
Khoda Hafez Productions was created in the spirit of filmmaking and was not intended as an entrepreneurial venture. Therefore, we are in the process of attaining fiscal sponsorship from the not-for-profit organization NIAC (National Iranian American Council) and have locked sponsorship from IFP (Independent Feature Project). This allows us to offer donors the incentive of a charitable income tax deduction. Simply make a donation to one of these organizations with a recommendation that the funds be directed toward Khoda Hafez Productions.
We hope this project will cultivate relationships that can last well beyond the scope of this project. We invite you to join us in in pursuit of raising funds for this project on May 2nd at The Delancy. There will be live performance by "The City and Horses" followed by Persian/Iranian music, Persian food, dvd giveaways and more.
