Faramarz Alsani & Babak Amini to Perform at the University of Maryland
Maryland Saturday - July 26, 2008 07:30 PM
Ameretat Productions presents Persian singing sensation Faramarz Aslani, together with master guitarist Babak Amini and his band will debut their performance at The Elsie & Marvin Dekelboum Concert Hall in grand statement Saturday, July 26th at 7:30 p.m.
Renown in the Iranian community, Faramarz Aslani is often described by critics as the Leonard Cohen of Iran for his rich lyrical poetry set to hauntingly beautiful music.
Since the 1979 revolution, when he moved his musical family (both daughters are accomplished artists), Aslani has produced four albums in the last twenty-five years.
While his music has become more western, the heart is pure Persian with Aslani acclaimed as the best poet outside of Iran. His album releases are rare. Just one album every six years or so. But once you hear one, the patience makes it all worthwhile. His seasoned and delicate blend of lyric and music is just shivering and stays with you.
Babak Amini has been performing since he was eighteen years old. From the nation that invented the guitar, known in Persian as ‘tar’, his natural affinity for the instrument began at just ten years old. His guitar mentoring was inspired by Iran’s famed master Shahrokh Partovi.
His first album was introduced in 1990 and over the years he has worked with and cooperated on more than thirty albums comprising the cream of Iranian composers, musicians and singers. He is a renowned composer, arranger as well as Iran most accomplished guitar player. Since arriving in North America in 2000, Amini has galvanized the Iranian community by composing Googoosh’s (Iran’s prima diva) newest album and accompanying her on her first world tour in twenty-one years.
Amini is committed to inspiring the younger generation’s love of music and spends endless and anonymous hours with young artists.
His latest album “Magic” was completed while on a world tour and has become international sensation amongst guitar-loving devotees.
The pairing of these two Persian superstars at The University of Maryland’s pre-eminent stage promises to be a singular event on the Iranian music calendar.
Tickets go on sale Monday, June 16th at 11:00 am.
