Shahrzad saves her life night after night by beginning to tell a story to Shahryar but not finishing it. Shahryar eager to hear the conclusion, postpones her execution one more night. So it goes on for One thousand and one nights! Storytelling has existed as long as humanity has had language and it is a fascinating form of art. Though everyone can tell a story, a good storyteller can visualize and transfer the images in the mind's eyes by vocal and bodily gestures to the audience. But, with the technology advancement, books, ebooks, TV, etc, is the storytelling vanishing or, are there elements of this ancient art form, continuing today? To open the discussion, I have invited a very dear guest, Shahrnush Parsipur (http//:www.shahrnushparsip ur.com/index. htm).
Shahrnush doesn't need an introduction. Many of you have read her masterpieces; "Tuba" and "Women Without Men". She was the first recipient of the International Writer's Project Fellowship from Brown University. Shahrnush will talk about "storytelling" versus "story writing". After discussion, those who are interested can tell a story. So, think about a story you like. WHEN: Saturday December 13
