Shirin Neshat: Artist Lecture
Louisiana Tuesday - January 20, 2009 06:00 PM
http://www.newcomb.tulane.edu/calendevent.html
As part of Prospect.1, internationally renowned Iranian-American photographer and video artist artist Shirin Neshat will speak about her on-going film project Women without Men. Inspired by Shahrnush Parsipur’s surrealist novel of the same name, the five-part project explores single narratives from the author’s interwoven tale of outcast Iranian women to comment on the lives of real women in traditional Muslim societies.
Gallery of work ("Women Without Men") exhibit open now through February 7, 2009
The exhibition consists of four video installations from an on-going film project inspired by Shahrnush Parsipur’s surrealist novel Women Without Men (Zanan Bedun-e Mardan), banned by the Iranian government in 1989. In each installation, the artist explores single narratives from the author’s interwoven tale of outcast Iranian women to comment on the lives of real women in traditional Muslim societies.
