The Persian Arts Festival celebrates a night of Persian Poetry at the Bowery Poetry Club.
Join the Persian Arts Festival for Shab-e She’r, a night of Persian Poetry with this month’s reader Nahid Mozaffari, on Wednesday, January 21st 6:00-7:45pm, at the Bowery Poetry Club, 308 Bowery (between Houston and Bleeker). For more information call 212-614-0505 or go to bowerypoetry.com. $6.
Mozaffari’s publications include Strange Times, My Dear: The PEN Anthology of Contemporary Iranian Literature (Arcade Publishing, 2005), a collection of post-revolutionary works edited by Mozaffari, as well as “Culture and Resistance: Writing Back to Power” in Targeting Iran, David Barsamiam, ed. (City Lights, 2007)
Mozaffari received her PhD in history and Middle Eastern studies from Harvard University, and has taught courses on the history, culture, politics and literature of the Middle East and North Africa at various universities in the United States and Europe. She is currently working on two books and teaching modern Iranian and Middle Eastern history in the graduate program at New York University.
Bring your own work or favorite Iranian poetry to share during the open mic segment of the event.
Hosting between 20 and 30 shows a week the Bowery Poetry Club (BPC) is proud of our place in the lineage of populist art: the Yiddish theater, burlesque, vaudeville, beat poetry, jazz, and punk that gave the Bowery its name.
