DescriptionDear Friends and Colleagues,
The One Million Signatures Campaign in California is delighted and honored to invite you to an evening event entitled "For Esha: A Night of Music, Poetry and Reflection: in appreciation and Honor of the Women's Rights Movement in Iran".
Please join us as an array of artists such as Shahla Sarokhani, Ziba Shirazi, Fariborz Azizi, Sahba Motallebi, and many more, share their talents in solidarity with Esha and the efforts of many other activists and artists in Iran seeking to empower Iranian society by
exercising their freedom of expression.
This event is inspired by and dedicated to our dear friend and colleague Esha Momeni, the Iranian American film student at CSUN who was arrested and imprisoned in Iran while working on her Master's thesis project on Iranian women and women's rights activists.
Esha sought through her work to banish stereotypes of Iranian women as weak and passive and to portray the strength and resilience of Iranian women in the face of daily struggles with discriminatory laws in Iran.
She did not break the law nor was she involved in any activities against the Iranian government. Nonetheless, she was imprisoned at the notorious Evin prison facility and
was only released following an extensive campaign launched by her friends in the One Million Signatures Campaign, students and faculty at CSUN, and concerned academics, artists and activists worldwide.
Unfortunately, the Iranian authorities continue to prevent her from leaving the country to return to her studies in contradiction to Iranian law and international legal standards.
This event seeks to honor Esha and fellow activists' efforts and to shed light on her continued restriction under a travel ban and the harassment of others in the women's rights movements in recent days.
This event is also being held in appreciation of the different organizations and individuals who helped secure Esha's release and hopes to highlight what can be accomplished when we join together with common purpose and a unified goal.
Please feel free to inform family and friends. We look forward to seeing you there.
