Persian New Year Festival - Houston

The Iranian Cultural Foundation-Houston (ICF-H) will host the fifth annual persian new year festival on March 22, 2009 at the Discovery Green Park in downtown Houston. This festival features live music by Morteza, local pop and classical music bands, and folkloric dances by Beshkan dance company fro San Jose. Other programs include children activities(petting zoo, clowns, face painting, moon walk, jugglers, beads, games), persian Bazzar, persian food, DJ music, and many other activities.
Admission is $10 and children under 10 is free
No pets or food allowed into festival area
Time and Date: Sunday March 22, 2009 from 1 pm to 9 pm

DescriptionWith the help of UC Berkeley's English Department and the Center for Middle Eastern Studies, Perspective is proud to present Niloufar Talebi, an award-winning translator, founder of The Translation Project, and editor of the recently published anthology, BELONGING: New Poetry by Iranians Around the World (North Atlantic Books). At the lecture, Talebi will discuss how she has brought contemporary Iranian literature to worldwide audiences through both translation and new media projects such as her recent theatrical creation, ICARUS/RISE, based on the Iranian spoken-word tradition of ‘Naghali’.
Talebi was featured in the most recent edition of Perspective and we are now proud to bring her work to life here at UC Berkeley!
