Myths are tales and stories of ancient times, but they play a crucial
part in our culture, and our understanding of them will able us to
recognize the roots of our beliefs, behaviors, and feelings. This is the introduction from our dear guest, Farideh Pourabdollah, one of the founders of "The Iranian Society for Human Rights" in San Jose. "Although my formal education is in science, from childhood I have developed passion for the epics tells of Shahnameh, and as such I consider myself a student of Iranian mythology." Ms. Pourabdollah will explore the story of creation, savior, resurrection, goddess and immortality as told in the Avesta and other religious Zoroastrian books and retold in the Shahnameh . Chand Rooz Ba’d explores the life of Shahrzad, a famous graphic designer living in Tehran who is consumed by her work and daily life. She is faced with a hard decision as she contemplates leaving her boyfriend with whom she is raising a disabled son.
Organized by Gender and Women’s Studies; Co-sponsored by Center for Middle Eastern Studies, Pacific Film Archive and Institute of European Studies
