    Chicago Tuesday - October 18, 2011     07:00 PM

Highland Park Public Library is hosting author Donia Bijan when she will be in Chicago to discuss her new book, "Maman's Homesick Pie: A Persian Heart in an American Kitchen,"on Tuesday, October 18, at 7 p.m.

Bijan is a chef and author who uses the language of food to tell her story, and honor her mother from whom she learned to cook. Her family fled Tehran for the U.S. and it was the familiar flavors of her mother's cooking that formed a bridge from the life they left behind to the new cuisine that helped them understand their new home. Bijan went on to study at the Cordon Bleu in France before opening her highly-praised restaurant near San Fransisco.

Books will be for sale at the Library and the event will conclude with a book signing. Guests can enjoy a taste of the book thanks to Phoenicia Mediterranean Cuisine, a Highland Park restaurant.
The event is free and open to the public.
