Bay Area - San Francisco Sunday - June 9, 2013 12:09 AM

Join us as we stand in solidarity with prisoners of conscience and all those who have suffered for basic human rights in Iran – to demand an open and inclusive Iran where the voices of all citizens count!
Four years after Iranians rose up, demanding "Where Is My Vote?" the government has proven once again that it is indifferent to human rights. The Guardian Council has disqualified all but eight candidates to run in this year's election - including all the women. Meanwhile, more than 500 political prisoners remain behind bars, including opposition candidates from the 2009 elections, who are on house arrest. Iran is not free.
San Francisco is hosting the first day of Behind Bars: a global action. Music, poetry, dance, speeches and theater will be on display at Justin Herman Plaza, one block north of the Embarcadero BART station.
- Diverse speakers will address the imprisonment of activists, journalists, women, students, artists, and ethnic and religious minorities in Iran.
- Special appearance by Sarah Shourd, the American hiker who was held in solitary confinement for 410 days.
-Musicians include Mohammad Tallani from KIOSK.
- Attendees will be asked to sign petitions to demand the immediate release of all political prisoners in Iran.
Join us - ALL are welcome! Bring your non-Iranian friends for a taste of Iran's music and spoken arts!
